SNAPSHOT OF YOUR BIRTH MOM IN THE STATE PEN

Snapshot of Your Birth Mom in the State Pen: poem cover

She stares out of her jumpsuit,
a size or three too large,
resembling an astronaut
at the end of her dark journeys,
shrunken like E.T.

Irene, who with a knife
sent Clyde to outer space
in 1955.

COUNTRY DANCE

Country Dance: poem cover

I watched
and I believed
it must mean everything
to sing out
the darkness,
in unison,
like crickets.
Rusty axles breaking
into hundreds
of dollars.
Friday night,
a Camel
and a hard grin.
